ATTENTION ALL
YOU 5.4 2V USERS WANTING A 3500-6500RPM INTAKE We are in talks with a company willing to make a real 3500-6500 cast aluminum intake specifically designed for the 5.4 2V. It will be a single plane with a square bore carburetor flange and will also have fuel injection capability using the stock fuel rails be it Mustang or truck. Design will be very similar to the intake shown in the picture on our intake page but there will be some significant differences as you can see in the CAD drawings below. You can either carb it, or install an elbow designed to be a direct fit for a Mustang, F150, or Lightning and run the stock fuel injection system. Mustang use will require a 2-3" hood scoop or cowl. Crown Vic can be done as well if you have a hood available. Pricing to be determined but we imagine it will be in the $600-$700 range (not including the elbow) What really got me started on this intake design was the thought of turbocharged Lightnings with combos similar to our 600RWHP, only the intake manifold is missing at the moment. Those considering TFS heads would also finally be able to do some real power with them. This intake is being designed to walk away from any other 5.4 intake currently available from 3500RPM and up, and will be a simple bolt on design with the corresponding elbow. FAQ - works in progress, as I get the questions and answers I will post them here.
| Didn't you originally state this intake was good for 7000RPM? It would be, but with what we have learned from the single plane 4.6 intake use is that the HP peak with typical street/strip cam profiles seem to come in around 6200-6500RPM on the smaller motor and 500RPM less on the 5.4 if all else is equal. That would place the HP peaks around 6000RPM for this intake considering typical street/strip cam profiles be it NA, blower, or turbo for a 5.4 2V. Cam it for mild to moderate racing and 7000RPM is no problem. What is this intake intended for? Street strip vehicles wanting to make peak power between 5500 and 7000 RPM With typical street type cams NA (233-238 duration) I would think the HP peak will be around 5700-6300RPM with this design. Even though its going to be a single plane doesn't mean we are designing it for 9000RPM use. I would imagine from 3500RPM on up it will out power everything else available at the moment. Is Modularheadshop going to make this intake? Nope, intake manifold manufacturing is not what I want to do, my hands are full enough already. I made a deal to help with the design work, handle the initial information release, and help get things coordinated. We will sell it if it gets made as a dealer but we are not the manufacturers. You would be able to buy this intake from us and a few other shops actually if it gets done. Any shops interested in dealer pricing please send me an email. Why not let one of the larger manufacturers make it? None are interested as the market is admittedly small. We have asked and there is no interest at the moment so we decided to look into it ourselves. What number of these need to sell to make it worth it? 100 pieces is the break even point give or take, also at that low quantity you can understand the higher cost over the bigger name manufacturers. You plan to get rich off this at the $600-700 price? If I wanted to be rich I wouldn't be in the performance business. Where would this intake be made? In the USA in the same foundry casting some of the Nascar intakes. When could this intake be shipping? In 10 to 12 weeks after the design is finalized. What fuel rails will it require? Stock - easy as can be. Why does it matter that it use stock rails? That is a major complaint against the other 2V single plane intake and hurts its sales significantly. NA guys don't need aftermarket fuel rails for their power level, nor do they like to spend $300 on custom rails and fittings which then doubles the price of the intake. Many blower/turbo guys have already spent money on rails for their current intake/blower, we are not going to ask them to spend it again for a custom single fit part. What about the throttle body? We will have custom elbows for each situation (at higher cost) What about boost? Turbo swapped Lightnings are the reason we started thinking about getting this made. What about nitrous? No problems there either. What about a carb? No problems there either. What about fitment to stock heads? It would match the stock PI intake port size with enough material to port match to TFS R heads if desired. Will it fit under a stock hood in a Mustang or Crown Vic? Nope, sorry! 2-3" cowl hood needed. |
